Marriage License

Marriage License Requirements

  • Applicants must apply for the license together and must complete a worksheet prior to arrival, which can be downloaded here.
  • Both must be 18 years old or older.
  • There is no waiting period, blood test, or physical requirements.
  • The marriage license is valid for 30 days, including the date issued.
  • The marriage license is valid anywhere in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
  • Both parties must present an acceptable form of ID, such as a driver’s license, government-issued picture ID, original birth certificate, or passport. (non-U.S. citizens will need an original birth certificate and passport or government ID)
  • There is a $50.00 fee for the license. Checks shall be made payable to Franklin County Clerk, or credit card/debit card (minimal processing fee) are accepted. No cash, please

Passport

What Do I Need?

  • Yourself OR child and both parents if passport is for a child age 15 or under
  • Certified birth certificate from the state where you were born
  • Valid photo identification (If you don’t live in Kentucky, you will need 2 forms of ID)
  • Passport photos (We can take your passport photo for an additional fee of $10.)
  • A check for payment of the application fee (necessary for each application; make payable to the US Department of State)
